Chart Area The charts are displayed in the chart area of the screen
which is, according to IEC standard larger than 270 * 270 mm.
ECDIS supports two chart formats: Vector and Raster. The system
operates the vector cartography under a seamless mode whereas the
raster cartography, such as ARCS from the British Admiralty or BSB from
NOAA, is operated under a chart by chart mode.

Scale bars
For a chart displayed at a scale smaller than 1:80 000 a latitude bar is
shown on the left side of the chart area (Length 10 nm).
For scales bigger than 1:80 000 the scale bar is shown in different colors
on the left side of the chart area (Length 1 nm).

North up symbol
North up symbol is shown in the top left corner of the chart area.
