b. To reset the distance reading to zero, click the ‘RESET’ button as
          shown in the fig-4.
          c. Click the ‘TRACK’ button in order to view the speed with respect to sea
and ground. Subsequent clicks toggle the view between the ship’s speed
over water and its speed over ground taking the effect of current and
          other factors.

          d. Click ‘MODE’ button to toggle the view between Resultant Speed and
Axial speed in fwd/aft and lateral directions.

          2.2.3 Forward and Lateral Speed

          a. Forward speed is the trainee ship’s speed in the forward direction.

          b. Lateral Speed is the trainee ship’s speed sideways (or direction
          perpendicular to the

forward speed. Lateral speed is caused due to drifting of ship, turning
          effect of the

ship or when the bow thrusters are in operation.
          c. The combine effect of both the speeds in the forward and lateral
          direction is called
the resultant speed as shown in fig-5.

2.2.4 Speed over water and speed over ground
          a. Ship’s speed over water is the actual speed of the ship in a straight
line without taking any effect of current and drift.
          b. Ship’s speed over ground is the speed of the ship after taking into
consideration the effect of drift, for e.g. caused by currents.
